'Sensational' Play at Fords Theater - $15 Tickets Available!
Details
I've been wanting to see this play The American Five at Fords Theater, and they generously just sent out a code for $15 tickets. The reviews have been wonderful. This is the last week, I believe.
Go to this link, click on Get Tickets for Oct. 9 and in the upper right corner there's a box for the "promo code" and a button to submit. The code is SPIRIT15. Should make it $15. This is a very good deal. (Should work for other days if Thursday isn't good.)
From The Washington Post review:
At Ford’s Theatre, first-time playwright Chess Jakobs is making a sensational debut with “The American Five,” a smart and captivating origin story of King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Far from a dry telling of the lead-up to the 1963 March on Washington, the play makes a fresh and compelling case for King’s ideals through the elements of great drama — complex characters, dynamic relationships and bristling, sparkly dialogue. It’s an extraordinary work of historical fiction, and the most lively and engaging I’ve seen of that particular chapter.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his inner circle imagined a pluralistic society in which equality and justice is guaranteed for all. In the face of surveillance, intimidation, arrests and life threats, five giants form a powerful coalition to advance civil rights and shape a defining moment in American history. Together, Dr. King, Coretta Scott King, Bayard Rustin, Stanley Levison and Clarence B. Jones plan the March on Washington and craft the speech that would galvanize the nation and inspire generations to advance America’s efforts to turn a dream into reality.
