One Battle After Another (Paul Thomas Anderson, 162 mins) is the American Indie filmmaker’s latest, fitting in with the genre’s postmodernist counterculture trademark. In this Thomas Pynchon adaptation, Di Caprio plays Bob, a drug-dependent, mixed-up revolutionary and anti-hero, playing out his activism on the US-Mexican border while also a single dad to his more mature sixteen-year-old daughter. While some of its paranoid action scenes border on to the farcical, the film tackles serious, contemporary issues. The high-energy soundtrack is by Radiohead’s Johnny Greenwood.
