CognitionX - A.I. Panel & Xmas Community Drinks
In the spirit of Christmas, we thought we’d offer our community a chance to celebrate while recapping some of the successes of 2016 and looking look forward to the prospects in store for next year.
As we near the launch of our the BETA of our Directory of All Things AI, we thought it appropriate that we hear something from our community members - what they have been up to and where they are headed.
As such, we've invited a group of AI representatives to give us a short piece of insight into what they consider to be the Artificial Intelligence successes of 2016, for their companies and for the industry as a whole, as well as some predictions and shared excitement for 2017.
The Panel:
Kenneth Cukier - Data Editor at The Economist
Aside from his work at The Economist, Kenneth is also the co-author of the award-winning book “Big Data: A Revolution That Will Transform How We Live, Work, and Think” with Viktor Mayer-Schönberger in 2013, a New York Times Bestseller translated into 20 languages. He is a regular commentator on BBC, CNN, and NPR, and a member of the World Economic Forum's council on data-driven development.
Alan Greenberg - Fellow at the Royal Society of Arts & Former Director of Education at Apple EMEA & Asia
Alan led the team who built Education Podcasting, launched iTunes U in the UK and Europe, developed Apple Education mobile engagement and iOS Education App’s. Currently Director, Advisor, Consultant and VC to a portfolio of early stage education technologies and mission driven businesses. Portfolio includes companies in London, Berlin, Beijing and Palo Alto. Mentor at Microsoft Ventures Accelerator, Telefonica WAYRA Accelerator, and The Duke of York’s iDEA project, London.
Brandon Whitcher - Chief Scientist at Klarismo
Brandon is a PhD Statistician with 14+ years of experience in the application of quantitative imaging biomarkers to the pharmaceutical, health and fitness industries.
In his work at Klarismo, Brandon uses machine-learning techniques and computer vision algorithms to analyze whole-body MRI data without manual intervention. The ability to quantify body composition from medical imaging data completely automatically makes direct fat and muscle measurements affordable and scalable in clinical practice and research projects.
Alastair Moore: Head of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, UCL Engineering
Alastair is a computer scientist with 10 years experience in AI/ML and early stage tech innovation. Co-founder of Satalia and Wearepopup.com. He helped set up the IDEALondon innovation centre at the heart of TechCity with Cisco and DC Thomson, has been a member of the Special Group for Entrepreneurship for the British Computer Society and has mentored at the Wayra Academy, Springboard Mobile (now Techstars London) & Startupbootcamp IoT.
The session will be accompanied by drinks, food and an overall festive spirit. Join us and our community of Data Experts, Entrepreneurs, Investors and Academics for an jolly evening exploring AI and forging new relationships.
