The demographic change in the growing portion of older people, is causing an increase in chronic and degenerative diseases and a rise in the number of people living with multiple chronic conditions. There is a need to find innovative ways to support their care. This talk presents our research on the exploration of the potential to use skeletal key-points in body and hand pose estimation models developed from video data to automatically identify agitation in people living with dementia, assessing the frequency and intensity of agitated episodes, using AI methods. Such work is an enabler for a system that can automatically monitor agitation for healthcare professionals to better understand patient conditions as well as improving accuracy and objectivity of assessment.
