JHB - Grounded & Helpful Large Language Models with RAG
Details
We are kicking off 2024 with insights on Large Language Models (LLMs) for enterprise enhancement, tackling risks like hallucinations and prompt injections. We'll discuss managing these challenges with a spotlight on Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG). Join us for a deep dive into safe, scalable AI operations and networking.

π€ Using RAG for grounded and helpful LLMs
LLMs show huge promise for helping large organisations enhance their operations and servicing. However, the risks associated with using LLMs β like hallucination, prompt injection, and the potential generation of harmful or embarrassing content β present challenges to using them for important, can-never-go-wrong operations at scale. This talk will discuss these challenges as well as approaches for managing them, with a deeper look at the use of Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) for operations support.
by Jess Rees & Jocelyn Mazarura
Jess Rees is a computer scientist and operations researcher by training, a data scientist by profession, and an NLP nerd at heart. She currently leads a team of data scientists at Discovery focusing on the creation and deployment of Natural Language Processing systems, including the research, development, and integration of LLM-based systems. When not NLPing, Jess enjoys board gaming, hanging fairy lights, and asking people to tell their dogs she says hi.
Jocelyn Mazarura is a data scientist at Discovery, working in the exciting field of generative AI with a focus on large language models. She was first introduced to the field of NLP during her master's studies, and she enjoyed it so much that she pursued a PhD in statistics specializing in topic modeling. Now, she is privileged to be part of an amazing team dedicated to exploring applications of NLP and large language models in the customer service space. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, and learning new things - currently, she is unleashing her inner fashionista and learning to sew!

βοΈ Lean Coffee Discussion
Lean Coffee is a structured and collaborative format that encourages open discussions and knowledge sharing about the most prominent topics within the group. Get ready for some stimulating conversations and debate.
βΉοΈ The AI ZA Community
Artificial Intelligence South Africa is dedicated to helping the technical and business community learn more about AI and get hands-on experience with AI development, research, and execution. Sessions include talks by experienced professionals, tutorials for beginners, and discussions around pressing topics in AI. Everyone is welcome!
πTopics
We have expanded our range of topics to include anything "future tech" such as cloud computing, quantum computing, IoT, VR/AR, game development, and more.
πΊπ»In Person Event Only
Online events are more often than not, dull, less engaging, and diminish the social and networking aspects of being in a community. This event will be in-person only.
