On Saturday, June 6, 2026, visual artist Liesje van den Berk is organizing a special drawing walk about the birds in Amsterdam North. While walking and listening, participants will look for the birds of North. How do you draw a bird? What makes a bird recognizable in form, movement, sound, and character?

Amsterdam-Noord is a habitat for a lot of birds. Some species are migrants, such as geese that return every spring to raise their young. Other birds, however, have become an iconic part of the Amsterdam streetscape, such as the pigeon and the heron. But which other birds live in the city?

In 2026, visual artist Liesje van den Berk is once again organizing monthly drawing walks through Amsterdam North. She does this in collaboration with Boekhandel van Noord and the Boven ’t Y Shopping Centre. Drawing walks and walks with writers alternate. This year, some drawing walks are even combined with a writer or storyteller.

During the walk, you set out with a pencil or let yourself be inspired by stories. You look, listen, feel, and capture everything on paper. The walks are for everyone; no experience is necessary. Let yourself be surprised!

Visual artist and teacher Liesje van den Berk will guide you with short drawing assignments and practical tips. Whether you are experienced or drawing for the first time: this is an inspiring day to experience Amsterdam North in a new way.
