What we’re about

Welcome to Arts + Public Life (APL) — Where Art + People Meet.

We’re your neighborhood hub for bold creativity and real connection, rooted right on the Arts Block in Washington Park, along Garfield Boulevard between Prairie Avenue and King Drive. APL is where South Side culture shines — and where folks come together to celebrate art, community, and each other.

Our programming is always FREE and open to the public — from cutting-edge art exhibitions and live performances to outdoor film nights, pop-ups, and workshops led by local artists. Whether you're looking to be inspired, meet new people, or just experience something different, there's always something happening here.

APL is part of the University of Chicago, but we’re built for the community — supporting Black and Brown artists, creative entrepreneurs, and anyone who believes in the power of art to bring people together.

If you're into good vibes, good people, and showing love to South Side art — come kick it with us. You just might find your next creative collaborator, favorite artist, or a new friend.
