Remember to reserve your spot via this link (Eventbrite)
Join us at our professional art studio in the artistic NDSM district of Amsterdam! Sculpt and paint colorful ocean-inspired reliefs using clay. Enjoy a cup of organic tea/coffeee with light bites, while learning new art methods in a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere.
What makes it unique with us:
It's multidisciplinary approach; blending sculpture, painting, and creative play into one immersive experience. In this hands-on session, participants will create vibrant ocean-inspired reliefs using lightweight clay, acrylic paint, and oil pastels, combining technique and expression in a truly original way. You will be able to integrate ancient techniques into your artwork.
What is our concept:
Participants will learn and explore:
- How to make a sculptural relief
- How to draw inspiration from nature and natural forms
- How to integrate painting with sculpture
- How to depict depth in both two dimensions (using color) and three dimensions (using clay)
- How to apply a work with a wide range of materials to get a desired result
- Exploring realism to abstraction (depicting realistic waves in unconventional color schemes, or reducing realistic waves into abstract forms)
What we are going to make:
1-Design Composition: Sketch wave lines on your Styrofoam board with pencil/charcoal. Vary size and shape for a realistic seascape. Add larger waves at the bottom for depth.
2-Base Layer: Spread a thin layer of clay (1β2 mm) under and along your lines to create a foundation.
3-Build Waves: Roll clay into snake-like forms and place along your wave peaks. Shape and pull with fingers/tools for smooth or textured effects.
4-Improvise: Repeat for other waves, adding variation in height, depth, and texture to make them stand out.
5-Add Color: Choose two complementary colors (warm or cool). Cover the surface with the darker shade, then use the lighter one for highlights to create movement and depth.
6-Final Touches: Add accents with pastels or paint pens, then finish with a glossy varnish for a water-like shine.
Structure:
- 15 minutes: Welcome and introduction
- 30 minutes: Warm-up exercises exploring composition & material
- 1 hour 45 minutes: Guided painting session, expressing inner feelings through abstract or semi-figurative forms
- 15 minutes: Reflection, sharing, and wrap-up
