A ride of three halves

Details

Meet at Shoreham wooden bridge (East side by memorial) at 10:00.

All: Coombs Road and Downslink for a quick coffee at Berretts Farm. Continue on Downslink to Southwater and through the lanes for lunch at the George and Dragon in Dragons Green.

Then:
Option 1: For those who are up for a challenge, who are happy to take on hills in the afternoon, and who are confident off-road (including long descents, some very narrow sections, and rougher ground than we normally cover). 37 miles in total.

This route is through Ashington, Warminghurst, and Storrington, up the severe climb at Chantery Lane, along the Southdowns Way, taking a right turn to cross the A280, up again and dropping into Honeysuckle Lane. The end is at Durrington Station. If you take this option, we'll wait for you on the climbs but no complaining about the climbs is allowed. An alternative was available!

Option 2: For those less confident riding off road and/or reluctant to take on hills, including a severe climb, after 30ish miles - return via Ashington and Steyning (via the Mouse Lane route) to the wooden bridge in Shoreham. 35 miles in total.

So we're all on the same route until lunch. Choose your route home according to your fitness, bike/tyres, and confidence off-road, and time available.

Note - road bikes with thin tyres are not suitable for this ride and gravel / mountain tyres are recommended for both options.

Please ensure that your bike is roadworthy and you have sufficient equipment to make minor repairs such as a puncture.

All participants are ultimately responsible for their own safety and well being and should be aware that the medical / first aid provisions are no different than if they were riding on their own or informally with friends.
