ASHDOWN FOREST train assisted from Shoreham

Details

Meet at Shoreham Station, north side, for the Thameslink train direct (station to station) to Haywards Heath. The trains are roll on, roll off and do not require prior booking of bikes. The Gatwick Express trains running on this line are not suitable for us.

Option 1: Early starters 9:12 train

Option 2; Later starters 9:42 train

Arriving 1) 9:41
2) 10:11

I shall be on the early train, Robin on later train.

Komoot files of Outwood & Return routes shall be found on Tuesday Rides WhatsApp.

The ride is 19 miles to Groombridge and 21 return, 40 miles in total. Biggest hill on the route is out of Groombridge. There is a small amount of very gentle off-road, apart from Forest Way trail. Please drink enough water at lunchtime. As for all rides, it is best to bring some food with you. Even if it is just a couple of snacks, or fruit, to eat on the train.
A coffee stop is planned at Tablehurst Farm, Forest Row, where we join the Forest Way cycle trail, to Groombridge - This is a small
village that straddles the border between East Sussex and Kent - 4.5 miles from Tonbridge Wells.

Ideally we shall arrive back at Haywards Heath station to catch the Thameslink service at 4:04. A later cycle friendly train is scheduled at 4:34, arriving 27 minutes later at Shoreham.

Please ensure that your bike is roadworthy and you have sufficient equipment to make minor repairs such as a puncture.

All participants are ultimately responsible for their own safety and well being and should be aware that the medical / first aid provisions are no different than if they were riding on their own or informally with friends.
