Another ride of three halves
Details
Meet at Shoreham wooden bridge (East side by memorial) at 10:00.
All: residential roads through Shoreham and Southwick to coffee at Emmaus (Homeless Charity) café in Portslade.
All: continue through Hangleton to take the cycleway up the old railway line up to Devil's Dyke. This is tarmac but rough in places. We re-join the road before the summit of the Dyke. Descent is on Saddlescombe Road to Poynings. Lunch is at Henfield, either Post House Café or The Plough.
Option 1: HARD - for those who want the challenge of another big hill. The return is via the Downs Link to Steyning and then up Sopers Lane (Monarch's Way) to join the Bostal Road. This is a hard climb on a concrete surface. The descent is on the Bostal Road and the ride finishes at St Mary's Church in Sompting. The total for the day's ride is 29 miles and 1,936 feet of ascent.
Option 2: EASIER - for those who prefer to avoid a major climb after lunch. Return via the Downs Link or the A2037 to Steyning, and then Coombes Road to the Shoreham wooden bridge where the ride finishes. The total for the day's ride is 25 miles and 1,261 feet of ascent.
