Contra Dance

Who says introverts don’t dance? 🪩 If you feel awkward on the dance floor, contra dancing is for you—a caller tells you exactly what to do! Contra is a type of folk dance with roots in English country dance (think Pride & Prejudice), as well as Scottish and French dance styles and African influence from Appalachia.

🕰️ The dance starts at 7:30, but first-timers should come at 7:00 for a lesson to learn the basic moves.

💵 Recommended donation is $12 (cash or Venmo).

🏳️‍🌈 You may hear the caller refer to “gent/lead” and “lady/follow” roles, but people of all identities are welcome, and you may dance any role you choose!

👞 Wear comfortable shoes with a smooth sole that will slide across a wooden floor.

🎻 Even if you don’t end up dancing much, come for the live music and people-watching!
