How do you build a web experience for something people actually depend on every day?

In this session, 𝑅𝒾𝒸𝓀 π΅π’Άπ“‡π“π‘’π“Ž and π’œπ“ 𝐿𝑒𝓉𝒾𝓏𝒾𝒢 from the City of Asheville will take us behind the scenes of the new ART Transit website and the practical engineering choices that brought it to life.

We'll talk JavaScript, static site architecture, transit data, accessibility, and the often invisible work required to make public-facing technology useful and reliable.

Along the way, we'll look at how the team used JavaScript to:

  • Hook into a static build process and shape the site around real transit data
  • Customize layouts with Pug templates and practical DOM techniques
  • Improve map-heavy interfaces with accessible alternatives and text equivalents

This is not a "shiny new framework" talk. It is a look at solid web fundamentals, thoughtful architecture, and the real-world tradeoffs behind shipping software for a city service.
