Sketch & Sip: Doodle Night at the Chocolate Lounge (No Skill Required)
Details
Bring a sketchbook, order a drinking chocolate, and draw whatever's in front of you — badly is fine, that's the point.
This is a zero-pressure doodle night, not an art class. Stick figures welcome. We'll grab seats at French Broad Chocolate Lounge right on Pack Square, sketch the room, the square, each other, or nothing at all — and actually talk to each other while we're at it. It's a fun, low-stakes way to meet people: when your hands are busy, conversation comes easy.
The Plan:
• 6:30 PM — Meet inside French Broad Chocolate Lounge (10 S Pack Square). Look for the table with sketchbooks out.
• 6:45 PM — Optional icebreaker: 5-minute portrait swap with the person next to you. Laughing is expected.
• 7:00 PM — Free sketching + chatting. Draw the lounge, the people, your chocolate, anything.
• 8:30 PM — Wrap up. Anyone who wants to keep hanging out can wander the square.
What to Know:
• Bring any sketchbook/notepad and a pen or pencil. No art supplies? A few extras will be on hand.
• Zero experience needed — this is about hanging out, not portfolio building.
• Everyone buys their own treats — the Lounge does drinking chocolate, ice cream, cakes, bonbons, coffee, plus local beer and wine.
• The Lounge is open until 10 PM on Fridays, so no rush.
• Parking: the city-owned Biltmore Avenue Garage (16 Biltmore Ave, first hour free) is a 2-minute walk. Friday evenings downtown get busy, so give yourself a few extra minutes.
Why This Event:
Nobody else in Asheville is doing a casual sketch night, and it's the easiest social format there is — show up solo, doodle something terrible, leave with new friends. Whether you moved here last week or last decade, come hang.
