Grab your camp chair, pack a little something delicious, throw a beverage in the cooler, and come join us for one of Asheville’s most fun local traditions
We’re heading to the Hazel Robinson Amphitheatre for The Hope of Oz, the newest production from the Montford Park Players, and we’re making a night of it
We’ll meet at 6:30 PM so we have plenty of time to park, stake out our territory, get settled together, spread out the blankets and chairs, crack open the snacks and drinks, and have ourselves a little Asheville Transplants munch bunch before the show starts at 7:30
Think tailgate party, but with theater. ?
The Hope of Oz takes us back to Oz about a decade after Dorothy defeated the Wicked Witch of the West, except this is definitely not the Oz you remember from childhood. The Wizard’s power has grown, the Witches are fighting back, revolution is brewing, and an investigative “Witch-hunter” named Gale is trying to survive the night
And because this is Montford Park Players, you can expect plenty of comedy mixed into the chaos. Their performances always bring a healthy dose of humor, personality, and playful irreverence to the stage
The best part? The show is FREE
Montford Park Players has been bringing outdoor theater to Asheville for more than 50 years and is North Carolina’s longest-running Shakespeare theatre company. Performances are donation-supported, so if you enjoy the show, you can donate online beforehand or contribute by cash or Venmo when the actors come through the audience at intermission

Food and drinks are welcome at the amphitheater, and they typically have concessions available as well
We’re meeting early because parking takes a little time and the stepped lawn seating is first come, first served. Please try to arrive around 6:30 PM so we can claim our little Asheville Transplants kingdom, settle in, and actually have time to socialize before the citizens of Oz descend upon us. ?
IMPORTANT GPS NOTE
Put “Hazel Robinson Amphitheatre” directly into your GPS for the most accurate route to the parking area
Come for the munchies. Stay for the Witches, revolution, questionable Wizard behavior and inevitable Montford Park Players shenanigans
This should be a really fun fall night. 🍂🎭?
