AYPROS Government Relations Crew: Real Time Intelligence Center Guided Tour

Transparency in government matters, especially when it comes to law enforcement.

Join the AYPROS Government Relations Crew for a private guided tour of Asheville’s Real Time Intelligence Center, commonly known as the RTIC, at the Asheville Police Department. This special visit has been arranged specifically for AYPROS in coordination with Interim Police Chief Jackie Stepp and the Asheville Police Department.

The RTIC has been the subject of considerable public discussion. When people do not have access to clear, firsthand information, it becomes easier for misinformation, and sometimes deliberate disinformation, to shape the conversation.

Knowledge is power. This tour gives AYPROS members the opportunity to ask their questions directly to the people responsible for the center and learn how it operates from the source.

No secondhand explanations. No social media interpretations. No predetermined opinions. This is an opportunity for direct, firsthand education about a public institution serving our community.

The goal is not to tell members what to think. It is to give them the information, access, and opportunity to ask thoughtful questions so they can reach their own informed conclusions.

## What to Expect

During the tour, participants will:

• Receive a guided look inside Asheville’s Real Time Intelligence Center
• Learn about the center’s purpose and role within the Asheville Police Department
• Hear how technology, data, and information are used to support emergency response and public safety
• Ask questions directly of Asheville Police Department personnel
• Gain a firsthand understanding of an operation that many residents have heard about but few have seen
• Explore the importance of transparency, accountability, and public understanding in law enforcement

This is the kind of informed civic participation the Government Relations Crew was created to encourage: showing up, listening carefully, asking responsible questions, and learning how local government works beyond headlines and assumptions.

## Who Should Attend

This tour is open to AYPROS members interested in local government, law enforcement, public policy, technology, privacy, emergency management, public safety, or civic leadership.
No prior experience is required. Returning Government Relations Crew members and first-time attendees are equally welcome.

Please allow additional time to park downtown and arrive for check-in. Final entrance, parking, and arrival instructions will be shared with registered attendees before the tour.

## Registration Is Required

The Asheville Police Department must prepare for the number of people attending, so advance registration is required. Space is limited, and members should register only if they intend to participate.
Come prepared to listen, learn, and ask questions. Transparency is most meaningful when public institutions open their doors and community members take the time to understand what happens inside them.
