AYPROS Government Relations Crew: October Meeting with Mayoral Candidates
Details
Local government decisions shape nearly every part of life in Asheville, from housing and transportation to economic development, public safety, parks, and the future of downtown. Understanding how those decisions are made, and where residents can have a meaningful voice, is not always as straightforward.
Join the AYPROS Government Relations Crew for our October meeting as we continue creating a place where young professionals can better understand local government, discuss the issues affecting our region, and become more informed and involved in the future of Asheville and Buncombe County.
This month, we are pleased to welcome Asheville City Mayor Esther Manheimer and City Councilor and Mayoral Candidate Kim Roney.
Members will have an opportunity to hear directly from both, ask questions, and contribute their own perspectives to the conversation.
## What You Can Expect
Each month, the Government Relations Crew gathers for a focused, working-style discussion covering current issues affecting Asheville and Buncombe County.
Throughout the year, Crew members will also have opportunities to:
- Hear from community leaders, elected officials, planners, and policy experts
- Attend City Council and other public meetings together
- Organize around initiatives that align with AYPROS’ mission
- Take field visits to better understand projects and community issues firsthand
- Help continue building programs such as 828 Lead, 828 Vote, and AYPROS Day at the Capitol
Our goal is not to advocate from assumptions. It is to become informed, thoughtful leaders who can positively influence our community.
## Who Should Attend
The Government Relations Crew is open to any AYPROS member who wants to better understand local government, public policy, and the issues affecting our community.
Whether you are already civically engaged, work in a related field, or are simply curious about how decisions get made, you are welcome to join us. No prior experience is required, and first-time attendees are encouraged to participate.
## Calling All 828 Lead Graduates
Bring your 828 Lead binder, wear your 828 Lead pin if you have one, and represent your cohort. This is a chance to put what you learned into practice and continue building your understanding of local leadership and government.
