Shut In Trail to Walnut Cove Overlook 7 Miles, 1300' Ascent

NOTE START TIME AT 8:00 AM
Description: Hike the Shut-In Trail parallel to the Blue Ridge Parkway with a vigorous climb from the underpass on Brevard Rd to the Walnut Cove overlook (milepost 396.4), and then back. Snack break at the Overlook (if it's open). Distance: 7.1 miles. Type: in-out. Ascent: 1300’. Max elev: 3000’. Avg moving pace: 2.4 mph. Difficulty (1=effortless, 10=hard): 6. Trail head: Bent Creek River Park. Dogs OK if on a leash.
As usual, there will be opportunity to have lunch and/or a beverage after the hike at the Stoneridge Tavern.
