Chestnut Cove--Pine Mountain loops 8 miles 1300' ascent

This hike is scheduled assuming the Parkway from the French Broad Overlook heading West is open (announcement supposedly August 1st)
Details: This is a double loop hike along the MST from Chestnut Cove Overlook to Pine Mountain and back. This is a beautiful and quiet section of the MST. Good Footing. Shaded. Pace 2.4 mph. About 8 miles and under 1300' ascent. Most of the elevation gain is in the first half of the hike. Max Elevation: 4,000'. Well behaved dogs on a leash are OK.
After the hike, get together at the Stoneridge Tavern for a beverage and/or lunch.
Tailhead: Chestnut Cove Overlook, Blue Ridge Pkwy
How to find us: Directions from I-26, exit 33 (Blue Ridge Parkway, Brevard Rd) South on Brevard Rd (NC-191) for 2.4 miles to the light at the Arboretum / BRP entrance. Turn Right (South) on the Blue Ridge Parkway to Chestnut Cove Overlook (about 5 miles)
