John Rock out and back, non-intensive hike

Details
NOTE: in an abundance of caution, and with apparent storm effect rains set to move through the area over the weekend, this hike is rescheduled to Saturday, 06 September at 10:00. change your RSVPs if this date and time doesn't work for you
this is a ~4.6 mile 830-ish feet elevation gain out and back to the John Rock overlook, on mostly shaded trails. 1.3 miles clockwise on Cat Gap, 1 mile on the John Rock trail to the rock face overlook. return by the same route.
in keeping with previous recent hikes, pace is variable, say 2.0-2.5 mph, allowing time to fully appreciate the surroundings
gear up as appropriate, trekking poles are an option. bring a snack as we'll take a break mid-hike. and plenty of water!
ground rules: 1) if you sign up, show up or change your status. a no-show may undercut a motivated wait-lister. (repeated no-shows will have consequences) 2 ) be sure you are in adequate physical shape to complete the event. 3) show consideration by emphasizing group effort and group cohesion. communication, collaboration, cooperation, that sort of thing. I hike for stress reduction and want to keep it that way as much as possible
well behaved dogs are welcome! (except when otherwise prohibited)
