Art Loeb North Slope – 8 miles, 1300’ ascent

Date & time: Wednesday, August 23rd prompt 8:00 AM departure.
Place to meet: Mills River Ingles, 3338 Boylston Hwy, in front of gas pumps, closest to Boylston Hwy, (If meeting at the trailhead, be there about 8:30)
How to find us: **Directions from Asheville: I-**26 East: Exit right on NC-280 West, Airport Rd, Go Right (West) Airport Rd, for 4.3 miles to Mills River Ingles on the right. Be aware that due to construction on I-26, exit signs are poorly marked.
Trailhead: Davidson River Campground: From Mills River Ingles to the trailhead (13.5 miles): Right (south) on NC-280 Boylston Hwy for 12.1 miles. Right on US-276 N for 1.3 miles. Left into the Davidson River Campground, then first left to parking for the Art Loeb trailhead. (before crossing the river)
Details: Some difficult footing; lots of shade; nearly all the climbing in the first 4 miles. Over the Davidson River bridge, climb along the Art Loeb trail to the North Slope Connector for a snack break. Then right down the North Slope trail and return along the river. Type: clockwise loop. Max elev: 3100’. Avg moving pace: 2.4 mph. Difficulty (1=effortless, 10=hard): 6.5. Dogs: welcome if well-behaved and on a leash, subject to area restrictions.
As usual, there is the option of grabbing a beer and/or lunch after the hike at the Ecusta Brewery or, Mills River Brewery
