directions to the trailhead
the Daniel Ridge trailhead is exactly 9 miles inside Pisgah, entering on NC276 from the Brevard side into the Pisgah Ranger Station section of the national forest. take 276 for 5.2 miles, then turn left on forest service road 475. travel for another 3.1 miles past the hatchery, at which point you go over a small bridge at Cove Creek. another 0.7 miles on the gravel road and the trailhead parking lot is on your right, after going over another narrow bridge. carpooling is recommended.
this is a great nature immersion hike with portions alongside the west fork of the Davidson River and up towards it's source, and finishes near Tom's lower falls. we'll take a clockwise approach
stats are approx 4.7 miles with 810 ft elevation gain
gear up as appropriate, trekking poles are an option. bring a snack as we'll take a break mid-hike. and plenty of water
ground rules: 1) if you sign up, show up or change your status 2) be sure you are in adequate physical shape to complete the event 3) show consideration by emphasizing group effort and group cohesion. communication, collaboration, cooperation, that sort of thing. i hike for stress reduction and want to keep it that way
