Bent Creek: North Boundary Road, Wolf Knob - 7.3 mi and 1400 ft
Details
I am going to post hikes similar in length, difficulty and pace to Mark Montgomery in his absence this winter although mostly on Mondays. The forecast is for cold temperatures on Monday morning so I am picking a trail with no water crossings. We will hike at about a 2.5 mph avg pace with stops as needed.
We will start at Rice Pinnacle parking lot. We hike up to the North Boundary Road, which marks the northern boundary of Bent Creek, and we go off-road at Meese Gap to summit an unnamed peak, down to Sheep Gap, then summit Wolf Knob, the tallest peak in Bent Creek. We should have some great 360-degree almost winter views.
Wolf Knob is steep and rocky. Hiking poles recommended. This is not a beginner's hike, but dogs are okay if on a leash.
We will go down Wolf Knob and rejoin North Boundary to Ingles Field Gap where we'll take a short break. Then it's down Ingles Field Gap Trail and the Connector Trail to Boyd Branch Road, then Ledford Branch Road, which takes us to Wolfe Branch Trail, and back to the parking lot.
