It is an honor to be selected to lead this hike...thank you Allen for your confidence in me. I hope we don't end up in Tennessee, or Oklahoma, or something.
MEETUP OPTION:
Carpool option 1: Meet at 8:45 am, at the Folk Art Center to follow or carpool.
Carpool option 2: Meet at Weaverville Ingles (across from Publix) near gas pumps at 8:35am. We will travel up Ox Creek to BPR so you could also meet us there if easier(approx 8:55am).
Pease post if you plan to carpool and where you will join the caravan, otherwise see you at the TH at 9:30 am. Walkers Knob Overlook Trailhead is approximately 40 minutes from Folk Art Center and 45-50 minutes from Ingles Weaverville.
HIKE DESCRIPTION;
This is an O&B, 10 mile back country hike passing Point Misery, Little Butt, and Big Butt with a turn around after 5 miles. Lunch at either Big Butt or Little Butt on the return.
There are over 350 well-crafted wooden steps ( out and back) on a trail which is mostly under a deciduous forest. The trail is maintained by the NC High Peaks Association. The elevation gain estimates is approximately 2000 feet, level 6*. High Mountain Temperatures on this hike are tipically 10+ degrees cooler than Asheville.
PACE: Fitness hikes proceed at a steady pace averaging 2.5 MPH on climbs and/or rugged trail conditions, and 3+ MPH on level/downgrade sections with brief regrouping at trail intersections, or as needed. There are plenty of cardiochallenges and endurance sections on this hike which is for conditioned hikers. Please know your hiking abilities before signing on. Weather: Cancellation and / rescheduling will be made on or before 7 AM hike day if inclimate weather forecasts indicates potential unsuitable conditions.
