HIKE DESCRIPTION: This hike begins at the Beaver Dam Overlook on the BRP South (of Asheville) at MILEPOST 401.7). We will hike the MST trail South to Elk Pasture Gap (at the Hwy 151 intersection) then back, about 8.5 miles. There are 1 strenuous, 2 moderate, and 1 easier section. Elevation gain is estimated at about 1750- feet (Level 5). This trail is well maintained, under hardwoods, and makes for comfortable hiking conditions with beautiful views as we cross 3 BRP overlooks. If the parkway is closed an alternative hike will be scheduled.
DOGS: Friendly dogs are most welcome.
PACE: we will maintain a BRISK averaging around 3 MPH, brief regrouping after strenuous climbs If needed. Faster-paced hikers are welcome to forge on ahead if they wish.

HIKE LEVELS are based on the total estimated ELEVATION GAIN for each hike while distances vary.
Level (1) Up to 600 feet of elevation gain.
Level (2) 600'- 900'; Level (3) 900' - 1200'; Level (4) 1200' - 1500'; *Level (5) 1,500' - 1,800'; Level (6) 1,800' - 2,100'; Level (7) 2,100' - 2,400'; Level (8) 2,400' - 2700'; Level (9) 2700' - 3000' Level (10) 3000' - 4000';
ULTIMATE HIKES are from 4000 to 6000 feet elevation.
