Please let the hike leader know if you choose to drive straight to the trailhead (10:00am) or carpool (9:20am). CARPOOLERS meet in the East Asheville Home Depot parking lot on the left as you drive down the entrance ramp at 9:20am,

Our hike starts on the Point Lookout Trailhead just briefly before turning right onto the Bernard Mountain Trail, which we will take to its end, at which point we will start on the Parris Creek trail and hike only half of its length before turning around at a viewpoint. Here's the hike: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/custom-routes/custom-route-38c331e

The Point Lookout Trailhead is located just before the gated terminus of Old US Highway 70, west of Old Fort. If you are coming from Asheville, take the first exit after the Eastern Continental Divide and the second left onto Old US Highway 70. Go about 2 miles on Old US Highway 70 until you see a sign for the Piney Grove Baptist Church on the left. Park in the gravel lot in front of that sign, but do not block the church entrance gate. One cannot drive much farther past that sign anyway as the old highway ends shortly after.

Allen recommends a visit to Hillman's Old Fort after the hike.

PACE: Please be capable of hiking this distance at a quick pace (~3 mi/hr) before signing on.

DOGS: TRAIL FRIENDLY dogs are welcome, but bring a leash

This hike is level 5.
