  • 6 Miles, 2000 Ft elevation gain
  • Carpool meeting time is 8:00 at the Asheville Tanger Outlets parking lot behind the Waffle House.
  • Sign up starts Friday at 8pm

I am going to try this hike again although the weather currently doesn't look promising for up in that area on Monday. This is a nice out and back along the Art Loeb trail to Pilot Mountain which has a beautiful view at the turn around. Some of the trail is a bit overgrown although not bad and I recommend long pants. We will keep a moderate pace dependent on the terrain but with limited stops. Although the distance and elevation might sound like a moderate hike, most of the elevation gain comes in the last 1.5 miles. It felt like a much harder hike when I scouted because of that so please don't sign up unless you are okay for a challenge at the end with no way to go but up.

I enjoy stopping at the Pisgah Inn after the hike and sitting in the rocking chairs behind the hotel. They have a convenience store where you can buy drinks and sandwiches or you can bring your own. We will try to break up into cars that want to do that and want to just go back to the carpool area.

CARPOOL
We will meet at the Asheville Outlets behind the Waffle House at 8:00. It is about a 50 minute ride to the trailhead. Please be there a little early so we can leave at 8:00 for the trailhead. There is very limited parking at the trailhead and it is all along the side of the road. If you plan to meet us at the trailhead, plan to be there by 8:50. See the AllTrails link above for directions to the trailhead.

WEATHER
I'll watch the weather and post a cancellation message by 7:00 AM if the forecast is >50% chance of precipitation.
