PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST

Green Mountain Deer Rescue is a volunteer-based organization in Green Mountain, NC, dedicated to rescuing, raising, rehabilitating, and releasing injured, abandoned, and orphaned fawns in Western North Carolina.

Their mission is to provide care and protection to these vulnerable animals, ensuring their survival and eventual return to the wild, while also offering opportunities for individuals to get involved and support their cause.

When we get there we’ll spend a few moments with the owner and hear how this amazing organization came to life.

The first feeding is at 12:00 pm. Volunteers will be given bottles and shown how to feed and handle baby deer.

After the first feeding is over, we will have lunch.

After lunch there are plenty of opportunities to help around the farm.
Water bowls refreshed
Fresh sawdust
Pen cleaning etc

This is also a time to rest, or explore the beautiful mountain farm

The second feeding happens around 5:00. This is when the adult deer come to the farm for their afternoon snacks!

What you need to bring:

Lunch
Bag chair
Apropriate footwear for farm work
A change of clothes just in case!

For the deer:

Apples
Grapes
Club Crackers (only)

The owners buys goat milk for the babies from a local farmer at $10 gallon. Any monetary donations will go toward purchase of the milk

Carpooling is recommended as it will be an hour drive from Asheville. Please meet Bibiana at Ingles at 915 Merimon Ave at 10:00 AM
From there we will travel to Ingles in Burnsville. We’ll plan to meet there around 10:45AM for anyone in that area. Anyone wishing to buy goods for the babies can get them there. From there its a 20 minute drive to the farm.

Once we leave the farm, there is an option to stop at Homeplace Beer Company for a beer and bites on the way home
