Paddling Tuckaseigee River, Class I-II+

THIS IS THE LAST SATURDAY OF THE YEAR FOR A SCHEDULED DAM RELEASE FOR THIS POPULAR AND EXCITING RUN!!!
The Tuckasegee River primarily runs over gravel bars until it reaches the gorge below Dillsboro, where it begins to drop over ledges.
We will run from Locust Landing [above the old dam] to Barkers Creek Access [below the old dam] for an approx. 10 1/2 mile float. First 5 miles is small whitewater interspersed, then you can either run the flume at the old dam or portage around before we do the lower 5 miles which will have a number of fun Class I-II rapids. [if you are a less experienced paddler you may think a few are Class II+]
Must be experienced in class I- II, have PFD and whistle, 7' line on bow for man- over- boards, lunch and your own gear.
MUST have skirt w/sit-in and flotation with all boats, if you don't have a sit-on-top. Please have everything D-clipped (water bottles,lunch, etc) to your kayak. NO INFLATABLES OR SUP'S PLEASE.
Meeting Home Depot exit 44, Asheville and carpooling as usual.
