What we’re about
Welcome ASL speakers and learners.
My name is Robert, and I’m an ASL student. I started this group to socialize and practice ASL with others.
NOTE: I am not an ASL teacher; this is not a class. I’m just an ASL student who wanted a group to socialize with.
The ASL Meetup is immersive, meaning no English is spoken. In this Zoom room, Voices and typing are Disabled. When we get confused, we fingerspell. If you want to socialize or practice, come prepared to have a nonverbal conversation in American Sign Language.
During a typical Zoom social, we are in one big group and take turns talking to each other. If there are many people, we split into small groups.
ASL is a visual language; having your camera off makes it impossible to talk to you. Also, it can make others uncomfortable. Please note that you may be ejected from the meeting if your camera remains off and you do not respond to messages.
