What we're about
ASL Social is a meet for those who sign, want more opportunities to sign, or want to improve or stay fluent.
As with many things, ASL is "use it or lose it" and many people have few opportunities or people to practice, learn and converse with in ASL.
This group is a place for all skill levels, hearing, Deaf and hard of hearing, to converse, practice and share knowledge in a friendly and welcoming environment. Open to all levels and all allies, we encourage those who know to help those who don't as much.
Join us as we find and make new opportunities, to share our passion for ASL, Deaf and hard of hearing cultures, and hearing allies.
This is an ASL social club. This is neither a class or a lesson. We are a group of hearing Deaf and hard of hearing allies. We do not teach ASL.
Please at least know your ASL alphabet fingerspelling and try to keep voice to a minimum.
You are welcome, no matter if you are fluent and can help others, if your ASL skills are rusty and you want to keep them or make them fluent, if you want to socialize in an ASL environment, or are just learning and want a place to practice, or anywhere in between.
👋 If you are able to host a meetup or outting (anywhere - walks, movies, bowling, cafés, pubs, museums, events, etc.), please let me know. You don't have to be the one who knows everything - you just need to want to go somewhere and invite people along. The group will only be what each of us puts in to it together. The group is currently on haitus until the new year unless someone else wants to host something, but we will return.
Onward and Upward,
from your ASL Social and Practice Group Organizer
