Managing loneliness: Black Infinity Autism Collective Social

Details

Come along to the London Action Resource Centre in Whitechapel to meet with other Black Autistics. We will be discussing tips for managing loneliness. (Okay to come if you just want to sit and listen) A recent study showed about 50 percent of adults in the UK report feelings of loneliness whilst 7 percent report chronic loneliness. People with added vulnerabilities like racialisation and disability in society can be more at risk of chronic loneliness so we hope to gather as remedy and support each other with tips to fight off intense mental or physical isolation :))

We will be collating ideas shared and discussed and any art/writing made into a zine (DIY magazine) on the Black Autistic experience as part of a longer series to create resources by us for us. The goal is towards a mutual aid resource bank where we share our joys, struggles and lessons with each other and overall learn how to thrive and survive as Black autistics. The session will be facilitated by Sarah and hot drinks and light snacks will be available.

Black Infinity Autism Collective is a solidarity space for black autistic people in London. Our principles are rooted in disability justice and the black radical tradition. Our aim is for black autistic people to feel less isolated and more supported as we navigate obstacles in life and feel as if we are part of a larger community or mutual aid network.

BIAC is a seasonal community group (we run spring/summer) and hibernate for the rest of the year. If you are interested in any specific types of events being run, chat to Sarah at the session and offer your suggestions. We always welcome ideas and people interested in hosting their own kind of events (in the past we have run nature walks and community listening parties and want to do more so long as people want it)
