See all- Books & Brews: "The Wedding People"Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden, Queens , NY
Hi folks, welcome to the Astoria Books and Brews group! The plan is to read a book a month and get together at local Astoria (& LIC) breweries to discuss. This group is perfect for people who love books AND beers.
BY AN OVERWHELMING MAJORITY we voted to read "The Wedding People" by Alison Espach, so that's just what we'll do! If you want to suggest a future novel, please add it to the this google doc: LINK. As the meet gets closer, I will post the three candidate books for our next vote.
I will arrive a couple minutes early to grab a table. Look for the orange bag. Unless otherwise noted, we will be meeting outside on the patio. See you soon and happy reading!
- Short Stories Series: "The Last Question"Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden, Queens , NY
Hey folks,
This is a meet where we read short stories, ranging from classics to contemporaries, while enjoying a pint from a local brewery. I will be selecting shorts from this list (LINK), and your suggestions are more than welcome! The stories selected for this series will be short, no longer than an hour or so, and we will be meeting once a month to discuss.
For this meet, we will read 'The Last Question" by Isaac Asimov.
Summary:
In The Last Question, Asimov explores humanity’s pursuit of immortality and cosmic survival through a series of vignettes spanning billions of years. Each scene features humans asking increasingly advanced computers the same question: “Can entropy be reversed?”—essentially, can the Universe’s inevitable death be prevented? As civilizations evolve and the Universe approaches its end, the question remains unanswered. It’s a profound, poetic meditation on science, faith, and the limits of knowledge.
