My basic intention with this group is to manage and plot a middle path, week by week, between three essential ingredients:-
(1) "Doing charts" - that is, helping individual members get insight into the most important elements of their unique birth charts.
(2) Teaching the basics of astrology. (That is, the meaning of planets, signs and houses.)
(3) Dispelling astrological myths. These myths include ludicrous ideas such as the following: That there should be 13 signs; that the precession of the equinox somehow means people's sun-signs are one sign out; that newspaper forecasts based on sun-sign have any validity and have anything to do with astrology; that there is no scientific evidence for astrology; that astrology asserts that there are only 12 personality types (whereas even at the most simplistic level
there are 1,728 "basic" types - although in practice everyone's astrology chart is totally unique).
So! My aim is to equip a small nucleus of people in Hobart with all the skills and knowledge they need to go about seeding a genuine astrological CULTURE and a genuine astrological COMMUNITY here. We should be well past the point where ill-informed people - who think they are displaying great objectivity or even scientific knowledge - dismiss astrology as having no theory to explain it, and no evidence to support it. But sadly - in Hobart - we are not. We should also be past the point where the naive person reads on a slickly commercially-oriented astrological website that the Sun or Mercury has just, e.g., gone into Pisces, and that this means we should expect the world's population to suddenly start being nice to each other for a month. But sadly we are not.
People who have a sincere interest in astrology and who are genuinely interested in learning more about themselves while in a supportive environment should consider coming along!
