Let’s get together and discuss the Nakshatras, or Lunar Mansions of Vedic Astrology. This is a continuing series of meetings covering all of the Nakshatras so we can become familiar with each one in detail.
Nakshatras are used for both natal analysis and also for electional planning and we should cover both for each Nakshatra! Our main study questions: What are the characteristics of natives of each Nakshatra? What types of activities are fortuitous to begin when the moon is in these Nakshatras? (What other study questions do YOU have?) Bring your own chart (or natal moon position) and any anecdotes of someone you know with these nakshatras:
This meeting let’s cover:
Mula
Sidereal: 0 Sagittarius 00 - 13 Sagittarius 20
(Tropical, approx 23/44 Sagittarius - 6/7 Capricorn )
Purva Ashadha
Sidereal: 13 Sagittarius 20 -26 Sagittarius 40
(Tropical, approx 6/7 Capricorn - 19/20 Capricorn)
Uttara Ashadha
Sidereal: 26 Sagittarius 40 - 10 Capricorn 00
(Tropical, approx 19/20 Capricorn - 3/4 Aquarius )Vedic Astrology Background: Nakshatras are divisions of the sky into 27 regions, each 13 degrees 20 minutes in size. The moon takes approximately 27 days to move through the zodiac and the number of Nakshatras reflects this. Your natal Nakshatra is based on your moon degree position in the sidereal zodiac (See the list above with both sidereal and tropical degrees (in case you don't know your Sidereal chart but if you're close to the nakshatra cusp you've got to make the sidereal chart; tropical cusp changes over time!).
We are all going to use our own sources to prepare for the meeting & feel free to share ones you like in the comments (please do!) and in the meeting chat, but here are a few to get you started:
