Safety and October 14th 2023 Partial Solar Eclipse
Details
I'm not sure if there will be 'formal' observing get together in the DC area, probably going to be a few of them, but figured I'd at least announce the event, and later I'll add a location as I hear of one.
This partial eclipse will be something to be careful with. It will NEVER be safe to look at the eclipse at any point, since it will never be total, and when ANY part of the sun is not covered, permanent damage can happen, even with the briefest looking.

If you still have your Eclipse glasses from last time, they may still be safe if there are not scratches.
This will be a good event to try out a pinhole projecting device, cardboard box, with a pin-hole in aluminum foil, easy to make and then many people can see the projected image together.

And one with a video:

for the DC area the partial eclipse will start about noon:08 (12:08)
maximum partial (30% covered) will be 13:22p
end of eclipse 14:36pm
