"Freethought and Free Press in Trump Times" and the 2016 "Tree of Knowledge"

Tree of Knowledge Sunday at the Ethical Society

11:00AM is the scheduled beginning of the program at the society. The program begins with an introduction to the Ethical Humanist Society of Philadelphia (EHSP), piano music, and an introduction of the speaker and topic of the talk. The featured speaker is EHSP Leader Hugh Taft-Morales. His talk is entitled, "Freethought and Free Press in Trump Times." Hugh will explore how, as political uncertainty clouds the horizon, should freethinkers and humanists prepare for Trump times? Even though the president elect is not particularly religious, he won a majority of evangelical, Catholic and Mormon votes. Perhaps they liked Trumps promises to ban Muslims, put conservatives on the court, and allow tax-exempt organizations to endorse candidates. How can freethinkers best defend and exercise our crucial Constitutional first amendment rights?

As the morning program concludes around noon, the Ethical Society will once again decorate a Tree of Knowledge in the lobby with members of The Freethought Society ( ). By the way, the last link has a picture of a past tree. You are encouraged to come pick from the assorted Freethought ornaments - laminated covers of your favorite books that promoted knowledge and free inquiry. You are also encouraged to bring two color copies of your favorite book representing your quest for enlightenment and add one copy to the tree!

Light refreshments and conversation to follow.
