What we’re about
Atheists in the Asheville / Buncombe area...come chat with this new group. Relax and spend time hanging out with people who, like you, don't believe some god is watching and judging us.
Even though this is a relatively new group we have 72 signed up here at Meetup so far. Of course not all of them come to the meetings.
We usually get together every Sunday at / around 10AM for coffee. Until further notice that is at the cafe at Earth Fare in Asheville, just off Patton.
We also have a book club that meets two times a month and an evening event in Hendersonville once a month. Locations may vary, so please check this space and/or your email for updates. We welcome your suggestions.
Please RSVP if you plan to come to an event. And feel free to tell your contacts about the group.
Would you also like to join our Trivia team "Asheville Atheists"? It's a fun way for us to hang out and get to know each other better. We can let you know when we're going to local trivia contests. There are some in this area most weekdays (but not usually on Fri-Sat-Sun).
Future plans: Maybe a hiking club, movie club and/or game night.
PS Just for fun, let's also talk about phrases we can use in place of "Thank heaven", "Holy cow" etc.
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Book Club - Wednesday 9/3- The Canon, by Natalie AngierStandard Pizza, Asheville, NC
Our next meeting is Wednesday, September 3, 6:30 p.m. at Standard Pizza, 755 Biltmore Avenue in Asheville. (FYI come a few minutes early and grab some food or drink. In addition to pizza, they have good salads, and a variety of beverages.)
We will continue our discussion of The Canon: A Whirligig Tour of the Beautiful Basics of Science, by American science author Natalie Angier. We will focus on chapters six and seven, covering Evolutionary Biology and Molecular Biology.
This should be an interesting topic for conversation- I will post some discussion questions here prior to the event so we can take a deeper dive into the science.
Note: We would like to keep each meeting to a max of 10 people, because more than that gets kind of unwieldy. Please RSVP if you do plan to come.
