We hope you'll come meet some of the group this coming Sunday or some time soon. Our newly-formed group has 16 members (plus some others who come but don't want to use Meetup). Conversations have been excellent. None of us believe in religion. Some of us wonder if "the universe" or something energy-related effect our lives, while others feel maybe in 100 years science will be able to explain time-without-beginning and other mysteries. But we also chat about things that are not related to religion etc at all.
Until further notice our get togethers will be 10AM - noon at the cafe at Earth Fare. The address is 66 Westgate Pkwy, Asheville. It is a large and very good "health supermarket". You'll find the Westgate shopping center right off Patton, after crossing the bridge on 240 West. Earth Fare is at the far end of the parking lot, past the Country Inn and Suites and a CVS, UPS store and more. There is plenty of free parking.
My wife Ally and I will be there starting at 10AM and will plan to stay until noon to meet any late arrivals. They have a very nice cafe that you'll find off to the left after entering the store. The grocery area also has some good deals - see https://www.earthfare.com/#about
We’ll have a sign so you can see what table(s) we are using. Bring your kids if you like but we won't have any activites prepared for them.
Please spread the word and be patient as we get this group on its feet. Tim Bolton of Hendersonville will help as a co-organizer; he was very involved in a Nashville atheist MeetUp group that grew to 2100 members.
Because we hope each member will feel it's THEIR group, suggestions and input are welcome. Let's start with your input about these things...
- Is 10AM Sunday a good time for you? Would 11 or noon be better?
- Do you have other coffee houses or breakfast places to suggest?
- Do you think you might be interested in joining our trivia contest group? It's another fun way to hang out with like-minded people (other Atheists).
- Is there some other kind of get together you'd like to organize? It could be one time or recurring. Some possibilities - book club, movie club, bowling...who knows? Perhaps an online Zoom chat?
