Hello wonderful big data developers and enthusiasts.

We are excited to announce our next event that will take place on Thursday, 24 September at 7pm. Our venue this time is room 206 on the second floor of Alba Graduate Business School.

Our speakers for the evening will be Chris Kachris (https://linkedin.com/in/kachris/) from InAccel (https://inaccel.com/) and Theodoros Michalareas (https://linkedin.com/in/theodorosmichalareas/) from wappier (https://wappier.com/).

In the first session Chris will talk about hardware accelerators on cloud environments in order to speed up ML tasks, and in the second talk Theodoros will walk us through the process of building ML data flows with PySpark and Python.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Adrianos | Euangelos | Stavros

Talks:

1st Talk:
Speedup Machine Application Learning on the cloud using Hardware accelerators.

Hardware accelerators such as FPGAs can provide significant speedup on big data applications. However, the lack of efficient framework for easy integration limited the deployment of accelerators in big data applications. In this talk we will present an integrated network that allows the easy integration of hardware accelerators in big data frameworks like Spark that allows the significant speedup of applications like machine learning with zero code changes.

2nd Talk:
Data Flow Building and Calculation Pipelines via PySpark and ML Modeling via Python.

In the first part of this session we will talk on how to use AI technology to automate and optimize the post-acquisition customer journey. Then, we will deep dive into how the data engineering and the data science teams are working together to utilize PySpark and Python to create advanced pipelines for data flow building, data calculation, and ML modeling.

Speakers:

1st Speaker:
Christoforos Kachris is the founder and CEO of InAccel technologies that develops hardware IP cores for the acceleration of machine learning applications over Spark and other frameworks. InAccel provides modules for Amazon EC f1 platform that allows the speedup of Spark applications. He is the author of more than 60 peer reviewed papers on the domain of hardware acceleration and machine elaring. He is the editor of the book Hardware accelerators in Data Centers. His main expertise is on hardware acceleration of applications like network processing, image processing, high performance and cloud computing.

2nd Speaker:
Theodoros Michalareas is wappier’s CTO with more than 15 years of professional experience in developing software applications for mobile and web systems. He holds a PhD from UCL, London in network optimization and biologically inspired machine learning. His interests include big data architecture, machine learning methods, large scale distributed computation and advanced visualizations.
