Hello wonderful big data developers and enthusiasts!

We are excited to announce our next event that will take place on Thursday, 14 November at 7pm. Our venue this time is the auditorium on the ground floor of Alba Graduate Business School, The American College of Greece.

Our speakers for the evening will be Thanassis Spyrou (https://linkedin.com/in/thanassis-spyrou-92911959/) from PwC (https://www.pwc.com/) and Chaoran Yu (https://linkedin.com/in/chaoran-yu-97b1144a/) from Lightbend (https://www.lightbend.com/).

In the first session, Thanassis will talk about timeseries forecasting as a service, and in the second talk, Chaoran will show us what it takes to run Spark and Flink jobs on Kubernetes.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Talks:

1st Talk:

Timeseries forecasting as a service.

Most people, especially in vibrant environments, like advisory, are used to create tools to do their work more quickly and efficiently. There is no doubt that automation through technology is definitely an improvement in the right direction, yet there is still something missing. As the working environment is changing quite fast, the need for abrupt responsiveness to change is becoming prominent as we go along. In this presentation we share our approach on how to seamlessly evolve from ad hoc coding to services. In this journey, we use data science and big data as our vehicle to success.

2nd Talk:

Run Spark and Flink jobs on Kubernetes.

Apache Spark and Flink are popular frameworks for big data processing. Deployment of such frameworks in production has always been challenging as it is critical to ensure robustness and performance. With the advent of Kubernetes, it comes with new challenges and considerations when deploying Spark and Flink workloads there. This talk aims to explore what it takes to run Spark and Flink jobs on Kubernetes, how Kubernetes features such as Custom Resource Definitions can help us and some existing tools and projects that we can use.

Speakers:
