Την Πέμπτη 26 Μαρτίου στις 19.00 θα συναντηθούμε για το δεύτερο Athens Python Meetup της χρονιάς, στα γραφεία της Yodeck, στην Ομόνοια (2ος όροφος). Θα μας μιλήσει ο Γιώργος Καργιωτάκης, με το θέμα της παρουσίασης να είναι:
"Building divemap.gr: Deep Diving into Python Web Development & AI"

Turning a personal hobby into a full-fledged application! In this presentation, we'll take a dive into divemap.gr, a comprehensive platform built for scuba diving enthusiasts.

We'll explore the technical depths of the project, focusing on how FastAPI and SQLAlchemy power a robust backend that goes far beyond basic CRUD. We'll look at how we handle Spatial Data in MySQL for precise geographic queries, a high-precision dive physics engine, implement Envelope Encryption to secure our user-to-user chat subsystem, and integrate real-time meteo data (wind and wave heights) to dynamically calculate dive site safety recommendations. We'll also showcase Divemap's extensive AI integration: an intelligent LLM-powered chatbot that acts as a virtual dive assistant, alongside automated newsletter parsing to extract dive trips.

Of course, building a full-stack app as an SRE comes with its own set of hurdles! We'll talk about the frontend challenges of navigating React and complex OpenLayers mapping. Finally, we'll discuss our modern infrastructure approach: deploying containerized apps to [Fly.io](https://fly.io/) while orchestrating AWS serverless events and Cloudflare services via Terraform, all while keeping operational costs at almost zero!
