This book choice is in recognition of Black History Month. Octavia Estelle Butler was an award-winning African American author and a pioneer of speculative fiction. She was the first Black woman to achieve national recognition in science fiction. Butler's work is known for its strong female protagonists, lean prose, and social commentary that explores themes of race, gender, sexuality, politics, religion, and the environment.
Want to know more about Kindred...if you don't already know...here's a link of the trailer: https://youtu.be/grco3eoAA30?si=RzjbiGzFTBXSj7D8. There was a short series adaptation made of the book in 2022, but there are tons of summary, reviews, and analyses of the book that can be found online. Happy Reading!
Best,
Jaye.
