Installation and Operation of Kinetica - Hands-On Workshop

Details
Hello Everyone,
I'm rescheduling to Sept 13th since I'm sick and I'm out of town the week of Sept 6th. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Presenter: Rommel Garcia
Abstract:
Learn how to install Kinetica in your laptop and in the cloud via AWS. Installing Kinetica on your laptop will leverage CPU and it will still work since Kinetica is designed to run on both CPU or GPU. In AWS, we will use p2.xlarge instance.
Once Kinetica is installed, we will ingest National Weather Service Storm data from 1950 to 2017. Next step is to create a custom Dashboard using the Kinetica Reveal visualization framework for geospatial analytics and run Ad-Hoc SQL queries in realtime.
One of the core challenges with geospatial analytics is moving data from the database layer to the visualization layer. Serializing and moving millions to billions of objects from one technology to another takes time. Kinetica is able to short-circuit this by keeping the data within its database, executing complex geospatial filters and advanced analytics, and rendering the geospatial data on the fly through its internal geospatial web server. With this architecture, it is possible to filter and visualize large, complex geospatial vector data at high speed, and without the challenges of moving data from a database to a separate geospatial server layer.
For those using laptops, make sure you have the latest VirtualBox and Vagrant installedIf you are interested in bringing your own data, I would recommend doing the following:
-
Pick data with Lat/Lon coordinates
-
Since you will be working in your laptop, several million records should be fine.
-
Do NOT include sensitive data. Make sure that data is scrubbed.
-
Coordinate with Rommel Garcia by sending your data to rgarcia@kinetica.com. He will work with you to make sure that everything is prepared prior to the event.
There will be p2 AWS instances that will also be used to showcase GPU install and operation, following the same use case above.
There's no location yet for the event so if you are interested in hosting here are the following requirements:
-
Must have internet connection
-
Must be able to accommodate at least 40 attendees
-
Must have projector
So please send a note to rgarcia@kinetica.com if you are interested in hosting.
Please bring your laptop if you want to install Kinetica on it. It's important that you install VirtualBox and Vagrant on your machine prior to attending. You can get VirtualBox here (https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads) and make sure to choose the installer that matches your OS. For Vagrant, you can get it here (https://www.vagrantup.com/downloads.html).
Food will be taken cared of by Kinetica. Pizza, drinks and swags will be given starting at 630pm.
