Visit to the High Museum + brunch beforehand
Details
Our November event is a return to the High Museum to visit see two exhibits.
Photography’s New Vision: Experiments in Seeing
This exhibition brings together more than one hundred photographs from the High’s collection that trace the formative “New Vision” movement (or Neues Sehen) of the 1920s–30s and its resonance with contemporary work. It highlights how photographers re-imagined the medium -through extreme camera angles, photograms, montage and abstraction - to challenge how we ‘see.’ Photographers like Paul Mpagi Sepuya use the medium to explore queer and black subjectivity and the act of looking itself.
Viktor&Rolf. Fashion Statements
This is the first major U.S. retrospective of Dutch design duo Viktor & Rolf (Viktor Horsting & Rolf Snoeren - longtime partners and openly gay designers), presenting over 100 avant-garde couture works that blur the lines between art, fashion, statement and spectacle. The show is divided into thematic chapters, from “Fashion Artists” to “Upcycling Couture”, and emphasizes the designers’ playful subversion of fashion norms.
