SEPTEMBER 4, 2025 Guest teachers:
We are honored to welcome Venerable Thubten Damcho and Venerable Thubten Dekyi from Sravasti Abbey in Washington state for a special evening of Dharma teachings and meditation on the timely topic: Compassion in the Modern World. In our fast-paced, often divided world, how can we keep our hearts open and our actions kind? Drawing from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the Venerables will explore how compassion is not only possible—but essential—amid today’s challenges.
Join us for this rare opportunity to sit with and learn from two fully ordained bhikshunis:Venerable Thubten Damcho encountered the Dharma while at Princeton University and went on to receive full ordination in Taiwan. A close student of Venerable Thubten Chodron, she teaches internationally and contributes to translation projects such as 84000: Translating the Words of the Buddha.
Venerable Thubten Dekyi (American) found Buddhism through the teachings of Venerable Thubten Chodron and has devoted her life to spiritual practice, monastic service, and environmental care, drawing from her background in natural resource management.
Whether you're new to Buddhism or have an established practice, this evening offers a heartfelt and practical exploration of how to live with compassion, clarity, and courage.
Bonus! The Venerables will lead at Grant Park Meditation on Wednesday Sep 3 at 7:30pm (GrantParkMeditation.org); Driving the Dharma Home Book discussion (from the late Emory faculty Geshe Dadul) on Sunday Sep 7 at 6pm at Grant Park Meditation at Chua Quang Minh Temple, and the Venerables will also be teaching at the Georgia Buddhist Camp from September 5–7.
