Speaker Bio: Cody Schneider has been a computer hacker since writing his first BASIC program and playing Hunt the Wumpus on a TI-99 back in the 80s. Since then he's dabbled in just about anything that can be done on a computer from music and video production to 3d animation and UNIX system administration. Most recently he's been a professional web developer for the past 5 years working for various financial institutions, WebMD, and currently Weather.com. After spending much time as a jack of all trades, he now specializes in responsive UI development and web accessibility.
Summary: This presentation will be focused on practical techniques
for developing a responsive User Interface. Very few developers have the opportunity to burn an existing site to the ground and start from scratch with a responsive layout in mind. We'll discuss some of the challenges that come with the job of putting a new coat of paint on an existing infrastructure. We'll also explore some specific tools and techniques that can make the job a little easier for those who are given a blow torch and a blank slate. In particular we'll take a look at Icon Fonts, SASS, Susy, and Modernizr. We'll also touch on some other handy techniques for managing break points and responsive media. We will be doing live coding so bring your machines!
