Atlassian terminates the server versions of Jira and Confluence - what next?

Details

Atlassian terminates the on-site Server versions of the most popular development tool stack. Atlassian accelerates cloud migration by discontinuing its Server product.

Atlassian announced major changes in its press release on October 16, 2020 on-premise versions of their products. The change applies to all Atlassian server products, the most used ones are Jira and Confluence with their add-ons.

In practice, this means

  • Termination of the sale of server licenses (Feb 2021)
  • Increase the amount of users impossible (Feb 2022)
  • And termination of server license support (Feb 2024)

For existing Server clients, this means moving to the Atlassian cloud model or alternatively in a premise environment to the Datacenter model.

The change evokes naturally a lot of questions among Atlassian users.

In the Meetup Lasse Mikkonen from Contribyte will keep a short introduction of the change and it's impacts. This will be followed by interactive part where we can discuss together about the topic.

So what exactly will be stopped?
Why is Atlassian making this change?
What does this mean for Atlassian Jira and Confluence current users?
What are the options for responding to change?
What is the future of Atlassian's offering?

Should you have any questions or topics to be addressed please ask and comment in the Meetup ;-).
