Session 1: Tarot Explained

Foundations of Tarot Series
Welcome to Session 1 of the Foundations of Tarot Series! Whether you're brand new to tarot or you've been reading for years, you're in the right place to deepen your relationship with tarot. This series is designed to help you build a strong foundation, develop confidence in your interpretations, and connect with a community of people who share your curiosity and passion for the cards.

In this first session, we'll break down what tarot is, where it came from, how a deck is structured, and some of the biggest myths and misconceptions surrounding tarot. My goal is to help you access your intuition, deepen your inner-standing of the cards, and develop the confidence to interpret them in a way that feels authentic to you.

Agenda

  • Welcome & introductions
  • About me and my tarot practice
  • Group expectations
  • What tarot is (and isn't)
  • A brief history of tarot
  • Common myths and misconceptions
  • Understanding the structure of a tarot deck
  • How to begin interpreting cards without memorizing every meaning
  • Group discussion and Q&A

What to Bring
A tarot deck (any deck you’d like, doesn’t have to be Rider-Waite, but must be tarot and not an oracle deck)
A notebook or journal
A pen or pencil
An open mind and a willingness to participate

A Few Things to Know
This is a judgment-free learning environment. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience level or spiritual background. Respect for one another and different perspectives is expected at every meetup.

*This class is part of an eight-session Foundations of Tarot series. While you're welcome to attend individual sessions, each class builds on the previous one, so attending in order will give you the best learning experience.

Hi, I'm Vee, the reader behind That Priestess Tarot. I created this community because I believe tarot should be accessible, thought-provoking, and rooted in genuine discussion. Whether you're opening your first deck or have been reading for years, my hope is that you'll leave each session with a deeper understanding of the cards—and of yourself.

Up Next: Session 2: The Major Arcana I, where we'll begin exploring The Fool's Journey and discover the archetypes and life lessons behind tarot's most iconic cards.
