November Meetup - Break things with fuzz testing

Details

This month we'll look at fuzz testing tools in Go. Fuzz testing is an automated way to find edge cases that result in program crashes, hangs, high memory allocation and other undesirable behavior using an algorithm which automatically increases its code coverage. We'll look at how fuzz testing successfully found bugs in a parser, and demonstrate how fuzz testing can be used to compare a function to an optimized version and find cases where they differed which an extensive test suite didn't cover.

About the speaker

Jud White is a Principal Engineer at Dell where he works on improving the reliability, performance, and scalability of services

As usual, we'll have free beer and pizza provided by Umbel.

Schedule

• 6:30-7:00 - Meet and greet, eat pizza, drink beer (responsibly)!

• 7:00-9:00 - Presentations and group hacking!

Location

We are located at 30.2667, -97.7524, behind Trader Joe's inside historic Seaholm Power Plant. Enter through north doors at the bottom of the stairs under the pipes.

Because the entrance is on the back of the building as seen from its address on Cesar Chavez, you may want to search "Power Plant Drive, Austin, TX (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Power+Plant+Dr,+Austin,+TX+78703/)" especially if walking from downtown.

Accessibility

There is a step-free entrance to the right of the sunken garden entrance, but it is locked and unattended after 6. Please contact Cody at 512-285-0134 or email cody@soyland.com, and we will be happy to make any special arrangements.
